This course explores the basic principles of ethics and teaches students how to apply them practically within the functions of marketing, communication, fundraising and journalism. Ethical philosophies are evaluated and ethical situations in different areas of communication are evaluated.
Students leave the course with an increased knowledge of – and hands-on familiarity with – the practical applications of ethics. They also develop a personal code of ethics to guide their practice.
Students consider how to live by an ethical code, reflecting upon questions such as: Can you advocate effectively for ethical practices? Are your values manifested by your professional tactics every day? Will you be a trusted leader who helps your organization navigate complex ethical issues?
